My Learning Story

 

In Wananga Last week we started doing a Learning Story to reflect r the Term and to set goals for next Year when i'll be Year 10. My WGA Learning Story

What We Did:   We did 100 Words Challenges.  We Did Market Day in Term 3.  We did Art Kete
What I Learned:   I learnt how to make an oamaru stone little statue.  I learnt how to make wheat bags.  I learnt to use interesting words to make stories better.
My Favourite Part:  My Favourite part was Market Day  I like making up strange stories when we did 100 Word Challenge I enjoyed making stone carvings
My Next Steps:  My next steps will be focusing on my learning so I can do good on my work.  My steps are to make new friends in my wananga Class. My next step will be to participate in all activities that are available.

Commitment I showed Commitment by finishing my 100 Word Challenges.		Achievement I showed achievement by finishing my stone carving sculpture.

I actively take part in the wider school community through groups such as: Kapa Haka, Polyfest, EPRO8, CAIMS Games Sports (Y7-8), Y9 Sport Competition, After School Sport, Chess Tournament, Student Council, Ambassadors etc.  The level I am working at is: A (Achieving the level)because: I participate in most activities because most of them you have no choice and most of them are fun and i enjoy doing them. I have a “can do” attitude (Growth Mindset). I complete the work to the best of my ability. I am punctual and arrive to class and school on time every day. I am organised and ready for learning. I set and strive to meet my personal goals.  The level I am working at is: WT (Working Towards), because: I'm not always prepared or organised but I can sometime be organised. I am not always on time.

In Health we were set a task that required us to research facts about the topic that we choose to research Our set success criteria that we chose was pro. The topic that I chose was steroids in sports. Steroids in sports and the sport we chose to focus on was the ufc. Firstly we had to Research what steroids were and why they are harmful towards athletes or just to any human. Once we had our 5 BIG questions we started to write all the answers down as we researched the answers. We chose to make/create a DLO, we chose to do this so we could show others how bad steroids affect your Hauora. We have learned that these strategies are helpful to use if. It was challenging when we had to create a DLO because we weren't sure what information to add to our poster. I coped with the challenge by working with my buddy and sharing my ideas with my buddy. I worked well with my buddy because we managed to get our topic finished.

Next time I will have to do two topics between two classes not just one in between two classes. I am really proud o# me and my buddy because we're happy with our work and we've managed to finish our first topic successfully.

Pool Safety

Today in Wananga I created a Poster showing eight different safety tips, because were going to Jelly park next week.
I included these tips because if you dont follow these rules you may get kicked out of the pool.

100 Word Challenge

I woke up,  and strangely I was floating in what I thought was a bubble, I Instantly looked down as goosebumps rushed up my spine, I was floating over Disneyland. I looked around and noticed there was an iPad, I turned it on and it showed me every country in the world. This was the best feeling ever. I had the power to go anywhere in the world, this bubble even had a food maker so I wasn't going to be hungry any time soon. I could make McDonald's, and any source of food and drink that I wanted.

Today iv'e been working on a poster about Hitler and what he did in his life and what he does as a leader.

100 Word Challenge

This morning I woke up and it was freezing cold, So I had a warm shower and off I went to work, But when I exited the door strangely there were footprints everywhere. On my Car, On My Grass lawn and even on every inch of my house. So I called up my boss and told them i'll be late for work, and luckily they let me come in a bit later. I thought it'd be a good idea to check my security camera, and instantly I spotted something strange. There were footprints appearing everywhere but no sign of a human or a body. MY HOUSE IS HAUNTED

Gymnastics

Today in PE we were learning how to do different moves in gymnastics.

I choose to focus on doing a full turn on the bars and I have managed to complete my goal.

The main points on how to do this is to:

1. Place your two hands on the two bars and swing your legs

2. As your legs swing higher lift them over the bar and land facing the opposite that you were looking at.

Next time id like to learn how to do any type of flip.

What it looks like: 

200 Word Challenge

 Today I woke up on a nice 30 degrees sunny day.

I was looking forward to this day all week because I was going to the beach with my mates. We were planning on going to one of our favourite local beaches. This beach has golden light sand with warm sparkling water, we enjoy this beach so much because it is so chill and calm. So up I got to get ready for the big day. When I was ready I drove to the beach where we all met each other. We all laid our towels and clothes and our food and then we thought it was time to get in so we ran in as fast as we could and started throwing a League Ball around. Suddenly everyone on the beach started screaming and we were curious why. When we saw why we stayed calm.There was a Whale Shark about 50 meter out at sea so we thought if we were a bit closer the whale would swim away.As we got closer the whale didn't go anywhere and out of nowhere the whale was coming at us full past.Of course we started to panic I couldn't breathe...

Skills learnt: How to fold the spring rolls.

Sensory evaluation: It was a average flavor and looked ok. The mixture of flavors were good and it was a ok meal. It didn't have a smell.

What I would do different next time: Add some chicken to the dish.

The team worked well and made the right meal.

Types of Leaders

Last week in Wananga we started a DLO about different types of 

Leaders In this DLO we had to explain what people did in these situations as a leader and we also had to show a picture or an example of the type of 7 different leadership styles.

Leadership is when you encourage others, be a role model to others, or you can be a leader in sports, jobs or even in your hobbies.

I think I am a Participative Leader.

Bushiness and Enterprise

Yesterday was our Business and Enterprise Day.

My group made wheat Bags as our product these were the prices of our wheat bags sold X-Large For $10, Large $8, Medium $3, Small $1.

To start of the day we went to our class where we were making our product and got all our equipment ready to be sold, next we took our table, poster and all of the wheat bags to our area where we were selling them.

As we all finished getting ready we were told to go to the green area to listen to an announcement that Mr Scott had to make. Mr Scott told us what we had to do to make our day successful and rules we need to follow to stay safe and to keep our customers safe.  

At the end my group and I were happy with the result that we got because we made a profit of $156.50 by selling our wheat bags.

Our group would also like to thank Mr Scotts Parents for donating us Wheat for our Wheat Bags.

Power to the People

 A couple of weeks ago in Hurumanu 6 we have started to look at politic and how that stuff works.
Last week we were put into groups where we had to make our own political party,The people in my group are Paea, Daisy, Sierra, Danielle.
Sierra is our leader of the group and she will be the on representing Tieke our kahui if we win the votes.

Our name is United voices and our slogan is Your vote your voice.

Music

This term in music we have studied different instruments such as Guitar, Keyboard and Ukulele.

The one instrument that i enjoyed would have to be Guitar because i like all the songs that you can play.

Iv'e Noticed that Guitar would have been one of the most difficult instrument for me because you have to time your strum and know where to put your fingers in the right spot at the right time.

I will be continuing with the guitar because its the one instrument that iv'e enjoyed the most and i'm going to try play a song by the end of the term.

Ukuele Blog

I've enjoyed learning this because i'm interesting in learning how to learn Ukulele and Guitar.

B+E (Buisness & Enterprise) Blog

This term we've been doing a project called business and enterprise.

My group is called Creative Comfort, we chose this name because we have decided to make wheat bags as our product because wheat bags are good for wounds from sport etc, or can be good for cramps or even just comfortable to sleep with.

If you don't know what a wheat bag is a a little pad/pillow that has wheat filled in it and when you put it in the microwave for 3 minutes max and when you take it out it should be warm and ready to be  used. The people in my group are Tai, Mitchell, Paea.

My group has finished our planning and now we need to start making our product and start making our advertising interesting for our customers.

I'm really excited to start making our wheat bags and cant wait to start selling our products and to see if anyone buys it or how much of a profit we make.

The Guitar

What is challenging about learning guitar?

I think its challenging learning the chords and hard putting your fingers in the right place at the right time.

What are the differences between Ukulele and Guitar?

Ukulele are a lot smaller and they only have 4 strings but guitars are a lot larger and a guitar has 6 strings.

I think ukulele are a lot easier to play and learn because its alot smaller and less chords.

Today in  class we created a Poster about the Government structure.

I explained what all these different people do to protect their countries or what they do to keep their people safe.

Mac & Cheese

Mac and Cheese

Make your roux.
Cook your pasta.
mix ingredients together
Add tomato and cheese on top.
Cook dish in oven.
Serve


Ingredients:
-Macaroni
-Cheese
-Ham
-Garlic
-Onion
-Milk

-Cornflour

Skills learnt: We learnt how to male a roux sauce which is a milk and cheese sauce mixed with cornflour to thicken the sauce. our cheese sauce was really good.

Sensory evaluation: It smelt an taste like cheese and looked a bit plain. It didn't have thee best texture but it was alright.

How I would rate this dish: 3/5 It was a bit plain but it was alright.

I would add veggies and more different colours to add flavor.

Our group work well together and we all did an even amount of work.

Today in Wananga we were writing a script to go with a animated short film and this is what I came up with here is a link of the short video that I wrote about.

Growth Mindset

 Last week in Wananga we started doing this google slide about Growth Mindset on this slide we did many different activity's.

Can experiment

Today in Science we did a experiment.

We used a can,element,ice cream tube full of cold water,scissor tong and a heat mat.

Hypothesis:I think that the can will crunch up.

What is expansion, what causes it to happen?

Expansion is when something increases in size.

Heat causes expansion.

What is contraction,What causes it to happen

Contraction is when something cools down and compacts together.

Contraction is caused when something is cooled down or cold.

The Piano

1).First piano was made in Italy by Bartolomeo Cristofori

3).You have to press hard on the keys on a piano and its not electric, And on a keyboard the keys are made of plastic which makes it easier to press on when you play it and it is also electric.

4).What have you enjoyed about learning the piano/Keyboard? What have you found challenging.

I've enjoyed learning a instrument that i wouldn't choose to play but I've enjoyed learning something new.And I've found using two hands challenging.
