Distillation Experiment

Today in science we are learning about Evaporation,Distillation and Condensation.

Aim:
To separate a solute from a solvent in a solution using distillation.

Method:
1.Set up the equipment  as shown on the diagram.

2.A mixture of coke and water was heated in a conical flask…

3.The water evaporates leaving the coke behind…

4.The water vapour flows through the delivery tube…

5.Heat the solution until most of the solvent has evaporated.

6.Then turn your element off.

Results:We saw the coke bubble then it started boil because of the heat.

Discussion:The photo with the flask that has a layer of coke on the bottom of the flask had that layer because the liquid was separated from the coke mixture by being boiled.

But the other coke mixture that is coke zero has a layer of sugar on the bottom of the flask that is because the coke zero has less sugar in the coke zero mixture.

Distillation: First the coke started boiling because it was being heated by the element, then the liquid evaporated and turned into a gas and went into the delivery tube next the  gas condensed and turned into solvent because it was cooled down by sitting in the ice that was in the beaker and the solute was left in the bottom of the flask.

Water cycle experiment.

The Water Cycle: Bag 1
CO2 Water Cycle: Bag 2
Acid
Desert Water Cycle
Bag 3
Does it cycle?
YesYesYes
Amount of Water
222
Acidity
131

Key: Water and acidity amount: 1 = none
2 = small
3 = large
Other comments:
Bag 1
1 Bag 1 cycled water
2 Bag 1 had a small amount of water.
3 The acidity in bag 1 was low.

Bag 2
4.Bag 2 cycled water.
5.Bag 2 had a small amount of water.
6.Bag 2 had a large amount of acid.

Bag 3:
7.Bag 3 cycled water.
8.Bag 3 had a small amount of water.
9.Bag 3 had none acid at all.

Conclusion:
Bag 1:
Bag 1 cycled water it only had a little amount of  water and the acidity in bag 1 was really low.

Bag 2:
Bag 2 had a small amount of water it cycled water and had a large amount of acid.

Bag 3:
Bag 3 cycled water and had a small amount of water and had no acid at all.

Hurmanu Science-Climate change.

Hurumanu - Climate Change

Aim: To look at the causes of climate change and how to prevent it.

As you watch the video answer these questions:

What is our greatest threat in thousands of years?
Globle warming Climate change.
How do we see climate change affecting the globe?
Heat waves natural disasters floods tornados storms tsunami.
  1.   Heat waves.
  2.   Floods
  3. tornado
  4.   tsunami

What is needed to change history?

Is climate change a man made distaster?
Yes.
Dramaitc action must be made in the next __ years to change it?
10
Why is our climate changing?
The world is getting hotter.
What is causing the warming trend of the climate?
Fossel fuels/gasess
What is the main problem?
fossil Fuels
What are examples of these?
Cole Gas oil.
Burning fossil fuels releases what gas?
carbon dioxide
How much hotter now is our world?
1degree
What do we call this global warming?
Layers from the sun.
How is this affecting creatures / animals like bats?
Its to hot for them.
What percentage of species are near exteinction?

How could this effect the world ecosystems?

What global change was seen and recording breaking last year?

How is climate change affecting our weather systems?
1.
2.
3.

What is another ettect of climate change?

What will happen if the ice melts in Antarctica and the Arctic?

How does this affect people?

What other things affect oceans change?

What does to much heat do to coral?

Why did some industries not want to stop burning fossil fuels?
Because there businesses will probably be shut down and they wont get much money.

Investigation

You can decide on how you would like to do this investigation. Your presentation could be on the blog, slides, or Powerpoint.

Write a definition, upload an image and list where these fossil fuels are mined.

Image result for coal
  1. Coal Definition: A combustible black or dark brown rock consisting chiefly of carbonized plant matter, found mainly in underground seams and used as fuel
  2. Oil Defintion: A liquid preparation used on the hair or skin as a cosmetic
  3. Natural Gas:Is mined in underground rocks.

Write a paragraph and upload an image about each of these renewable energy.

  1. Solar is basically a type of technology that gives us renewable power from the sun or from riversSolar energy works by capturing the sun’s energy and turning it into electricity for your homes buisnesses and many more things
  2. Wind:Wind turbines generates electricity by using the natural power in the wind.
  3. Waves: Power from the wave generates electricity.HydroAs the wind passes over the surface of the oceans, a portion of the winds kinetic energy is transferred to the water below, generating waves.

Write a 6 sentence reflection about what you have learnt about Climate Change and how it is going to affect us.
