Note To Self

In Wananga we've recently been learning about well being an how to control our emotions or emotions that may visit us.Mostly every day my Wananga teacher has been sharing with us little quotes and telling a what the meaning behind them mean. These quotes help us by remembering what were grateful for and to remember to stay respectful to others.

I know Te Whiti will never be defeated,And even at the darkest hour.

This song shows that Parihaka is important as it talks about what happened and it still effects people to this day, this song is well know by many people.

Sensory Language

My skin glowed as the sun Blazed down on my body. My ears hummed as the waves clashed into each other, My feet stumbled through the golden sand as I ran to the Sparkly water. My mouth watered as I Inhaled the smell of my lunch that I was about to consume, My skin roasted as I tanned in the Flaming hot sun.

Spiritual slavery

A couple weeks ago in Social studies we've started to learn about slavery and what they went through while they travelled, what they did for work, how bad they were treated, songs that were made that talk about those days and we've created a map showing every place slavery was and where the slaves were taken from and shows where all the valuable items that the slaves collected went to.

In this Blog post I will be showing you a song that talks about Slavery, my map that I created and ill talk a bit about what these countries had to do with slavery.

The black people were sold from Africa, And put onto a boat with no idea were there going or how long it'd take, no space at all, they were separated and chained up in little areas for months in one position cramped up on there back not being able to move because there legs and arms were chained up. On the Boat they would use music and songs to communicate with each other so the white guards couldn't understand what they were saying and what they were going to do, when they had a chance to try turn the boat around an kill the guards.

When they arrived to the United States they were tagged like animals so if they tried to escape they would be found and taken back to there owner to continue picking cotton, tobacco and sugar.

All of the supplies that the Black people collected were put onto ships and taken to France on boats.

There was a Lady called Harriet Tubman who helped a lot of black people escape from the Slavery fields through under ground tunnels, Their safety and freedom would not be reached until they entered into Canada. Not all slaves travelled north. There were also Underground Railroad lines that lead south en route for Mexico and the Caribbean

Here's a song that was written about slavery and when they escaped this songs called Wade in the water, these are some lyrics and what they mean.
Who are those children all dressed in White?

God’s gonna trouble the water.
Must be the ones of the Israelite.
God’s gonna trouble the water.

This song talks about when the kids in white are picking sugar, tobacco, and cotton, It say gods gonna trouble the water, which mean when they escaped they go and wash themselves in the water so the dogs cant sniff them out and catch them.
