Evaporation Experiment.

This week in science we have been learning about evaporation.Evaporation is when a liquid is turned into a gas.

Aim:The aim is to Evaporate copper sulfate(Blue Liquid) and to separate the liquid

Equipment:

-Glasses

-Copper sulfate solution

-250m Beaker

-Heat proof mat

-Evaporating basin

-Element

Method:Set up element,Add 100ml of hot water to the beaker and place on the element,the add copper sulfate to the evaporating basin until it is quarter full,Then carefully place the evaporating basin on top of the beaker,

next we turned the element up to 6 then we heated the solution until most of the solvent has been evaporated and crystals of solute are forming.Then finally turn off the element.

100 word challenge

This morning I woke up and I saw a bear in my backyard taking a swim. I was about to jump in my backyard pond because we were fishing and it was a really hot day. But when I saw the bear I decided to get my fishing rod and start catching some fish for the Brown Bear. But when I threw the bait into the water the bear noticed I was there and started skimming across the water to chase me. So I ran away and the bear stopped and ate the bait that was on the fishing rod.

 

Chocolate muffins reflection.

Last week we got to choose if we wanted to bake muffins or cookies, and i choose to bake chocolate muffins.

 Then we were split into a group with four people in it who also wanted to bake muffins, but before we choose what we were making we had to decide who would be our stakeholder and I choose my older sister. 

We had to choose a stakeholder because we had to get feedback by our stakeholder,then we had to write what our stakeholder thought about them.My sisters feedback was good because she said that they were doughy and I also noticed this when I tried the muffins.

Summary:I would make sure that I measure all my ingredients accurate so the muffins taste less doughy.

Ingredients:

-2 c Flour

-1 t Baking Powder

-2 T Cocoa

-1/2 c Brown Sugar

-1/3 c Chocolate chips 

-50 g Butter(Melted)

-1 Egg

-1 1/4 c Milk Approx

-1/4 t Vanilla Essence

Distillation Experiment

Today in science we are learning about Evaporation,Distillation and Condensation.

Aim:

To separate a solute from a solvent in a solution using distillation.

Method:

1.Set up the equipment  as shown on the diagram.

2.A mixture of coke and water was heated in a conical flask…

3.The water evaporates leaving the coke behind…

4.The water vapour flows through the delivery tube…

5.Heat the solution until most of the solvent has evaporated.

6.Then turn your element off.

Results:We saw the coke bubble then it started boil because of the heat.

Discussion:The photo with the flask that has a layer of coke on the bottom of the flask had that layer because the liquid was separated from the coke mixture by being boiled.

But the other coke mixture that is coke zero has a layer of sugar on the bottom of the flask that is because the coke zero has less sugar in the coke zero mixture.

Distillation: First the coke started boiling because it was being heated by the element, then the liquid evaporated and turned into a gas and went into the delivery tube next the  gas condensed and turned into solvent because it was cooled down by sitting in the ice that was in the beaker and the solute was left in the bottom of the flask.

Today in  health we created a google drawing on how to avoid getting back stabbed.

Hurumanu-Dilution Experiment

On Monday we did a Dilution Experiment because we are learning how something dilute and were learning about a serial dilute which is a repeated dilution.

Aim:

The aim of this experiment is to see how a dilution works.

Equipment:

-Test tubes

-Measuring Cylinder

-Potassium Permanganate

-Water

-chaparral

First we had to collect the six test tubes that we need and then we collected the funnels and a measuring cylinder to pour the 10 ml of water into the first test tube then we added 5 ml of water into the 5 other test tubes using the funnel and the measuring cylinder then when we finished pouring the water into each tube we went and collected some Potassium Permanganate which is a powder that we were using to do the dilution experiment.

Raising agents Cookies

Today we cooked Chocolate chip cookies.

Ingredients-
-100g butter 
-1/2 cup Chelsea White Sugar
-1/2 Chelsea Brown Sugar
-1 egg
-1 tsp Vanilla essence
-1 1/2 Cups Flour
-Pinch of salt
-1/2 tsp baking powder
-1 Cups chocolate chips

Method:

First we had to grab the ingredients that we needed to make the cookies. Then we melted the butter and creamed in together with both of the sugars. While creaming the mixture we combined all the dry ingredients together. Next when the wet mixture was fully creamed we added the egg and vanilla essence. Then we mixed the wet and dry ingredients together. After mixing the ingredients together we rolled them into little balls and then we put on the baking tray. 

Then finally we put them in the oven at 180 and cooked them for 10-8 minutes.

 

What they tasted like Before and After:

When they were done we tasted them and they tasted really good because they were really soft and warm. But after waiting when the cookies had called down we tried them and they were still really good but the cookies got harder and were obviously colder.
